Better Rich Text Buy licence

The Tiptap alternative that comes finished.

Tiptap gives you a headless toolkit, then sells the interface, comments and history as a cloud subscription priced by developer. Better Rich Text ships the finished editor, with a toolbar, menus, ten skins, comments, track changes and revision history on your own servers, for $299 once.

Why teams leave Tiptap.

From Tiptap’s own pricing page and docs, struck through and replaced with what you get instead.

  1. Interface

    Tiptap is headless: you build the toolbar, menus and theme yourself, or use UI Components on a paid plan. A toolbar, menu bar, context menus, slash menu and ten skins in light and dark, ready on day one.

  2. Comments and history

    Comments and document history “require managed cloud documents”, on Tiptap’s platform or an Enterprise on-premises deployment. Comments and revision history run on your own server, included.

  3. Track changes

    Tracked Changes is an add-on, priced by contacting sales. Suggested edits with accept and reject are included.

  4. Developers

    Start includes 2 developer licences and Team 5. Each extra developer is $39 a month. Unlimited developers.

  5. Limits

    Go over your plan’s cloud document limit, and if Tiptap doesn’t hear back, “your plan will be upgraded automatically”. No document limits, and nothing upgrades without you.

  6. Missing features

    Templates, merge tags, footnotes, callouts, email-safe export, full-page HTML and an accessibility checker aren’t offered. All included.

Compare all four editors side by side

Moving across.

Tiptap’s editor.getHTML() gives you semantic HTML, and Better Rich Text loads it. Pass it to content or setHTML(), and headings, lists, tables, images, links, quotes and code blocks come across as they are.

Extensions become plugins with typed commands, and the engine still runs headless when you want it to: chain(), can(), and filters and actions on everything.

import { createRichTextEditor } from '@better-rich-text/core';

const editor = createRichTextEditor('#editor', {
  content: savedHtml,
  toolbar: 'blocks | bold italic | bulletList orderedList | link image table',
  onChange: (e) => save(e.getHTML()),
});

Questions.

Can Better Rich Text run headless like Tiptap?
Yes. The engine runs without any interface, every command is typed, and filters and actions hook into everything. The difference is that the finished interface is there when you want it: toolbar, menu bar, context menus, slash menu and ten skins.
Do comments and revision history need a cloud service?
No. They run in your app and save through your own server. Real-time co-editing runs on a Node server you host.
How much does it cost compared with Tiptap?
$299 once, for unlimited developers. Tiptap Team is $149 a month on annual billing with 5 developer licences, and Tracked Changes is priced by sales. Prices as of 30 October 2026.
Can I keep my existing Tiptap content?
Yes. Export it with getHTML() and load it with setHTML(). Headings, lists, tables, images, links, quotes and code blocks keep their structure.
Which frameworks does it support?
React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Aurelia 2, Solid and Web Components have adapters, and the core works with plain TypeScript or JavaScript. It’s written in TypeScript and tree-shakes, so you only bundle the features you import.
