Better Rich Text Buy licence

The TinyMCE alternative that bills you once.

Better Rich Text does what TinyMCE does, then includes what TinyMCE sells separately: comments, suggested edits, revision history, real-time co-editing, Word and PDF export, templates and Markdown. One $299 licence covers unlimited developers and domains, with no editor loads to count.

Why teams leave TinyMCE.

From TinyMCE’s own pricing page and docs, struck through and replaced with what you get instead.

  1. Billing

    TinyMCE counts every editor that starts as a load, so ten editors on a page are ten loads on every refresh. Over your plan, that’s $40 per 1,000. There’s no load metering. Put as many editors on a page as you like.

  2. Collaboration

    Comments need Professional at $145 a month. Suggested Edits and Revision History cost $787 a year each on top, and real-time collaboration was retired on 31 December 2023. Comments, suggested edits, revision history and real-time co-editing are included, on your own server.

  3. Everyday features

    Markdown, mentions, merge tags, templates, footnotes and a table of contents need Essential at $79 a month. The free template plugin was removed in TinyMCE 7. All included, along with math, callouts and an accessibility checker.

  4. Documents

    Export to Word starts at $39 a month for 200 documents and Export to PDF at $29 a month, then $0.25 and $0.15 each. Word import and export run in your app, and PDF comes from the browser or your own server. No per-document fees.

  5. Licence keys

    TinyMCE 8 disables the editor without a valid licence key, and self-hosting the premium features means the Enterprise plan. There’s no licence key in your config and no licence server, and every feature runs on your own servers.

  6. Price rises

    Essential went from $67 to $79 a month in early 2025, and staying on TinyMCE 4, 5 or 6 adds $30 to $65 a month. You pay once, so there’s nothing for us to raise.

  7. AI

    TinyMCE AI is sold as credits, from $133 a month. Choose your cloud provider or optional on-device AI on supported desktops. AI agents can call every editor command as a tool.

Compare all four editors side by side

Moving across.

@better-rich-text/migrate reads your TinyMCE init object and returns editor options, a warning for everything it changed or left out, and TypeScript that builds the same editor. Toolbar strings and plugin names are mapped, and your image upload endpoint keeps working.

Stored content is HTML, so it comes across as it is. cleanEditorHtml strips TinyMCE’s bookmarks, helper attributes and vendor classes first, and a small tinymce-shaped facade lets your app switch editors before you rewrite every call site.

Read the migration guide

import { createRichTextEditor } from '@better-rich-text/core';
import { fromTinyMceConfig } from '@better-rich-text/migrate';

const result = fromTinyMceConfig({
  plugins: 'lists link image table code',
  toolbar: 'undo redo | blocks | bold italic | link image table',
  images_upload_url: '/api/upload',
});

for (const w of result.warnings) console.warn(w.option, w.message);
createRichTextEditor('#body', result.options);

Questions.

Is Better Rich Text a drop-in replacement for TinyMCE?
It’s built to be one. The migrate package translates your TinyMCE configuration, toolbar and plugin names, cleans stored HTML, and ships a tinymce-shaped facade so your app can switch editors before you rewrite every call site. It reports every option it changed or left out, so nothing changes silently.
How much does it cost compared with TinyMCE?
$299 once, for unlimited developers and domains, with every feature included. TinyMCE Professional is $145 a month on annual billing, before Suggested Edits and Revision History at $787 a year each and $40 per 1,000 editor loads over the plan. Prices as of 30 October 2026.
Does it need a licence key or a cloud service?
No. There’s no licence key in the editor config, no licence server and no load counting. The editor runs in your app, and collaboration runs on a Node server you host.
Can I keep my existing TinyMCE content?
Yes. Content is HTML, and cleanEditorHtml removes TinyMCE’s bookmarks and helper markup before it loads. Comments, revisions and suggestions kept in a vendor service are exported from that service and imported as records.
Which frameworks does it support?
React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Aurelia 2, Solid and Web Components have adapters, and the core works with plain TypeScript or JavaScript. It’s written in TypeScript and tree-shakes, so you only bundle the features you import.
