Better Rich Text Buy licence

The Froala alternative that never renews.

Froala’s Professional plan doesn’t cover SaaS, so a SaaS product starts on Enterprise at $1,999 a year, renewed at the then-current list price. Better Rich Text is $299 once for unlimited developers, domains and products, SaaS included.

Why teams leave Froala.

From Froala’s own pricing page and docs, struck through and replaced with what you get instead.

  1. SaaS

    Professional covers 3 domains and 1 product, and SaaS and subscription use “require an Enterprise or Custom plan”, from $1,999 a year. One licence covers unlimited domains and products, SaaS included.

  2. Renewals

    Annual licences renew at the then-current list price, and the promotional discount applies to the first term only. There’s no renewal. Every update within the major version is included.

  3. Perpetual

    A perpetual Enterprise licence is $5,999 at list and includes 12 months of updates. After that, updates need a renewal. $299 covers every update within the major version you buy.

  4. Entry price

    The $299 a year Basic plan was removed in 2023, and the cheapest plan became $899 a year at list. $299, and you pay it once.

  5. Missing features

    Templates, merge tags, footnotes, a table of contents, callouts and an accessibility checker aren’t in Froala’s plugin list. All included.

  6. Math and proofing

    Math and grammar checking mean third-party products, MathType and WProofreader, each with its own licence. Math, and spelling and grammar through your choice of provider, are included.

  7. Email

    There’s no email-safe HTML export with inlined styles in the plugin list. Email-safe HTML with inlined styles is included.

Compare all four editors side by side

Moving across.

@better-rich-text/migrate reads your Froala options object and returns editor options, a warning for everything it changed or left out, and TypeScript that builds the same editor. toolbarButtons, pluginsEnabled, fonts, colours and imageUploadURL are all mapped.

Stored content is HTML, so it comes across as it is. cleanEditorHtml strips Froala’s helper attributes and vendor classes first. There’s no key or attribution option to carry over.

Read the migration guide

import { createRichTextEditor } from '@better-rich-text/core';
import { fromFroalaConfig } from '@better-rich-text/migrate';

const result = fromFroalaConfig({
  toolbarButtons: ['bold', 'italic', 'insertLink', 'insertTable'],
  pluginsEnabled: ['link', 'table', 'image'],
  imageUploadURL: '/api/upload',
});

for (const w of result.warnings) console.warn(w.option, w.message);
createRichTextEditor('#body', result.options);

Questions.

Can I use Better Rich Text in a SaaS product?
Yes. One $299 licence covers unlimited developers, domains and products, including SaaS and subscription apps. Froala’s Professional plan excludes SaaS, which needs Enterprise at $1,999 a year at list price.
Do I have to renew?
No. Your licence includes every update within the major version you buy, and that version keeps working forever. If a new major version ships, upgrading is optional.
Can I migrate from Froala?
Yes. fromFroalaConfig translates your options, toolbar buttons and plugins into editor options and reports what it changed, and cleanEditorHtml prepares stored Froala HTML. The migration guide has the full mapping.
Does it include collaboration?
Yes: real-time co-editing, comments with threads, suggested edits and revision history, with a Node server you host.
Which frameworks does it support?
React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Aurelia 2, Solid and Web Components have adapters, and the core works with plain TypeScript or JavaScript. It’s written in TypeScript and tree-shakes, so you only bundle the features you import.
